PRICE LIST

Effective 1st September, 2010

Scans

The scans will be done with a Hasselblad Flextight 848. This dedicated film scanner delivers visibly superior results from your originals, approaching or equivalent to those from a drum scanner … but for a lot less money. Film sizes supported range from 35mm (unmounted) to 4×5″ and 6x17cm. The originals can be B&W or colour, negatives or transparencies. Your originals are expected to be clean but the scan price includes cursory dust/hair removal (by hand).

The resultant files can be delivered in any RGB colour space. If not specified, Adobe RGB (1998) will be used. Alternatively you could choose Macquarie Editions’ own larger custom space with an L* tone response curve. The files will be unclipped (flat) with no sharpening applied so Photoshop work will be needed to prepare them for print. All files will be written to DVD+R as 16-bit grayscale or 48-bit RGB TIFFs.

See below for pricing. Discounts are available for volume scans (just ask for a quote). Add $10 per DVD burnt (includes a thumbnail sheet).

Prints

Macquarie Editions uses the finest archival pigment printer available today, the Epson Stylus Pro 7900 with UltraChrome HDR. Print sizes range from A4 up to A1 (sheets) and 610mm x 2.3m / 24″ x 90″ (rolls). An extensive range of premium papers from Canson Infinity, Hahnemühle, Epson, Ilford, Harman, Museo etc is stocked. A set of ICC profiles is generated in-house for each individual paper (with various gamut-mapping and B&W toning options) and relevant profiles are available on request for soft-proofing purposes (note that due to inherent monitor limitations soft-proofing should be treated as a guide only).

The supplied files should be ideally TIFF, RGB/grayscale, 8/16-bit and flattened but any format that can be read by Photoshop will suffice. Make sure you tag the file with your working space profile. For more detailed information on the preparation of your files for printing, click here.

All supplied images are examined before printing and sharpening, minor tonal/saturation changes etc may be applied (as required). Significant editing work will be charged at an additional $60/hour. The optimal rendering for each image and the paper selected is also chosen. If you require your files printed strictly “as is” and with a particular rendering just say so.

Pricing for prints/reprints is as shown below. Other sizes will be calculated proportionally. Note that not all sizes of all papers are available/carried. Pricing is for the overall paper/sheet size so allow for (and specify) any required borders. Proofs (marked as such) are available for 60% of the print pricing. Test strips (when using roll media) are available for $10 each.

If you choose to supply your own paper/media (assuming it has been profiled) a discount of 25% will apply. You will not be charged for waste prints, nor refunded for the paper/media used.

If you’re a bona fide student and the prints are for assessment, a discount of 15% is available.
